The alarm that warns of unforeseen or uncontrolled risks

The alert system that warns of unforeseen or uncontrolled risks: Sabentis’ communications management system has a new version designed to clearly and explicitly highlight risks that are either not yet considered or, if considered, have not yet been fully controlled. Both situations must always be addressed.

This is the procedure to follow to make communications regarding any eventuality with damage or possible damage to people in the new version designed in Sabentis for the management of communications; which include unsafe acts, unsafe conditions and observations.

In the event of any incident involving damage or potential damage to people and/or equipment, reports detailing the causes must be submitted. Therefore, employees, from their position as workers, can submit reports so that the appropriate company representative can take the necessary action. Timely reporting is essential: every near-accident is a warning sign that should be heeded.

Upon receiving the notification, the manager can take several actions. First, they will classify the type of notification. Then, they will determine the severity of the situation. Finally, they will identify the associated risks and provide feedback on their response. Both the employee and the manager can attach documents to facilitate their investigation.

Once the investigation is complete, the report can be approved or rejected. If approved, corrective measures can be implemented to mitigate the identified risk.
Furthermore, the company representative has several important functions. First, they can register risk reports. Second, they can investigate these reports. Finally, they can manage them directly from the occupational risk prevention management platform.

The alarm that warns of unforeseen or uncontrolled risks

Why is communications management key?

They are always essential, but especially when faced with potential unsafe actions, unsafe conditions, and the reporting of observations. Therefore, it’s always worth remembering what exactly constitutes an unsafe action or an unsafe condition:

  • Unsafe action:

These events refer to failures, oversights, errors, or omissions committed by individuals while performing a job, task, or activity. These actions can expose them to the risk of an accident. On the other hand, reckless actions can be carried out by workers. These actions are often motivated by the urgency to finish the job quickly. This can result in neglecting safety measures, improper use of tools, and incorrect use of personal protective equipment. Remember that you are also a safety officer: anyone can raise the alarm.

  • Unsafe condition:

Several risk factors are associated with the work environment. First, there are facilities, work equipment, machinery, and tools that are not in suitable condition for use. These items, unable to perform the work for which they were designed or created, present a hazard. This hazard translates into a risk of accident for the person or people using them.

Observations are a field of great potential for gathering information for the company. They have become a technique for collecting comments, descriptions, data, and more. Observing, accumulating, and interpreting the actions, behaviors, and events of people or objects as they are usually performed, and transmitting them through a written notification in the corresponding field of the platform, allows for contextualizing any eventuality, regardless of its nature. It also facilitates the determination of causes and the planning of both preventive and corrective measures that will be necessary in the event of any accident, incident, or occupational illness. They fit within a Preventive Safety Observation (PSO) process.

These conditions can be caused by a lack of maintenance of workplaces and/or equipment, as well as misuse of facilities or lack of order and cleanliness by workers in their daily tasks.
